The Murrumbateman Region

Murrumbateman, the capital of the Canberra district cool-climate wine region, is located on the Yass Plains, 20 km from Yass. Nowadays, this small, former gold mining town is at the centre of a thriving wine industry – around 49 wineries operate in the region, many with cellar doors and excellent restaurants.

The Murrumbateman Cool Climate Wine Show began its life in 1999 and was born out of the vision and commitment of a small band of local grape growers and winemakers. It is dedicated to benchmarking the unique winestyles produced from cool climate wine regions. The first wine show attracted approximately 90 entries.  Since its inception, local wines have been well represented amongst the trophy and medal winners
